Emma R. Ahrens aged 79 of Elk Point died Sunday after a long illness at a Vermilion hospital. Funeral held Tuesday at Anderson Funeral Home Elk Point led by Rev. Kermit Rye. burial in Elk Point cemetery. Born June 10, 1889 in Grant township SD near Akron. Survived by brothers Herman and George and four sisters. Pallbearers named Virgil Gabel Dale Huettman Elmer Quam and Harry Ahrens.

Funeral services held for Nels H. Quamn 88 Brule Township
Funeral services were held at Brule Creek Lutheran church for Nels H. Quamn 88 of Brule Township who died December 7 in Vermillion after a brief illness. Rev Kermit Rye officiated with burial in the church cemetery. A Monday prayer service was held at Anderson Funeral Home Elk Point. Quamn a retired farmer born July 27 1880 in Brule Township married Anna Anderson in 1909. He was survived by two daughters a son 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

A special election was held in Orange City to decide on a one million dollar water system improvement project. Pierson Iowa welcomed a new 1,000 gallon fire truck. Firefighters battled dense smoke and cold for over three hours to control a fire at Pauls Produce in Alcester South Dakota causing extensive damage to the building and contents. Lamont Rentschler of Inwood earned special recognition for a corn yield of 119 bushels per acre from 60 acres, harvesting 7,140 bushels of No 2 corn. Marcus high school student council plans to collect summer clothing and toys for orphans at Phu Cat air base in South Vietnam. Plymouth County fair reported the largest 1968 attendance in the five county area with about 25,000 attendees. A milk truck from a Sibley Iowa creamery overturned near Remsen Iowa, driver reportedly unharmed. Sidney E Milburn D, Eagle Scout, will represent Story Council as a US delegate to the New Zealand jamboree in Kaipoi January 2 to 19. A Hawarden court of honor will award nine Eagle ranks on December 2. Four youths were reported throwing rocks at traffic on a highway bridge near Beresford South Dakota, breaking a windshield on a passing semi. Work on the old Union Hotel in Le Mars is nearing completion late this week.
