Open house for the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mockler of Akron will be held Sunday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at their home. Nonagenarian Mr. Joseph Appley of Morningside Manor Alcester S D was honored on his 90th birthday November 9 1975 at Immanuel Lutheran church Akron He is shown with four children and about 45 relatives including sister Mollie Oake The event featured family photos and remarks from community leaders about Akron progress and civic projects including Block Grant plans for 1976 and the Community Betterment program Local officials and residents spoke on water sewer and housing improvements and urged continued community involvement in Akron projects
Harry Wahl of Westfield celebrated his 80th birthday on November 13, 1975. Born November 13, 1895 in Carroll Iowa, he moved to Plymouth County in 1912 and has farmed the area his life. He enjoys growing flowers and giving bouquets to friends, maintains a large yearly garden, and visits his sister Marcella at the Akron nursing home daily.

Beverly Plueger and Walt Wendel married November 22 1975 at St. John's Lutheran Akron with Rev James Sandvik officiating. The bride daughter of Darrell and Beverly Plueger Akron and groom son of Walter and Mrs Wendel Sergeant Bluff. Attendants and family are named. Reception at Akron Golf Clubhouse followed by residence in Sioux City.
The Akron TOPS 893 group held its weekly meeting on Wednesday December 3 with 14 members present. Secretary and treasurer reports were approved. Best adult loser shed 34 pounds and best pre teens loser 14 pounds. A Christmas party was scheduled for next Tuesday due to the elementary program.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Peterson of Centerville South Carolina announce the October 25 marriage of their daughter Charlotte to Arlin Beeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Beeck of Akron.
Ted Hoffmann of Akron is recuperating at his son Peter Hoffmann’s home in La Puente California after a week in Queen Of The Valley Hospital West Covina for throat obstruction linked to laryngitis. Plymouth County WWI Barracks 1507 and auxiliary plan their monthly meeting Saturday December 13 at the Eagles hall Le Mars with 1:30 pm business session, gilt exchange, carols and refreshments.
The Akron 4 H club met at 7 p m on Monday November 3 at the home of Toni and Teresa Nelson. Officers elected for the coming year include Beth Willer president Laura Willer vice president Wanda Sheveland secretary Theresa Loetz treasurer Kelly Krohn historian. Reporters are Krista Heeren and Kim Krohn with Lori Heeren as music recreation by Becky Wilmot and Teresa Nelson. Lori Heeren led the 4 H pledge and gave an arts and crafts demonstration. Teresa Nelson and Kim Kohn Beth Willer teen leader spoke during the meeting.
The December bulletin lists visits by Peggy McLane Jeanne Hinrichsen Lizzie Haage and many others to Herman Haage Anna Meyer Minnie Postlewait and more. Residents heard a community Christmas program at Trinity Lutheran Church with intercom broadcasts and cookie coffee service for attendees.
