Garland Thanksgiving Socials Across Area Families

Special correspondence notes numerous Thanksgiving gatherings across Garland and nearby towns. Westfield Consolidated notes report a lively school reassembly after Thanksgiving. Honors go to students above 90 average on the second six weeks including Mary Catherine Beaubien Edith Bergum Louis Bertrand Harold Johnson Elsie Hummel Catherine Rollins Helen Ross Vera Buryanek. The first six weeks averages by grade are listed, with seniors near 86 and juniors rising. Thanksgiving program featured Dr D O Kime of Western Union College and a chemistry reel by A H Hershberger. Basketball plans resume with games against Elk Point Union and Hudson before vacation. a trip to Vermillion was followed by illness in families of patrons, and enrollment stands at 145 from 69 families.

Community Hall to Host Officer Election and Pot-Luck

In this week’s note from Community Hall residents are invited to the officer election and a pot-luck luncheon. Mrs G W Maysonholder and Lea Rose spent the weekend in Sioux City. Louis Wahl visited his mother Mrs Mary Wahl from Sioux City for Thanksgiving. Mr and Mrs Fred Emmick and Phyllis Seyler were Sioux City shoppers Tuesday. Miss Winifred Kendergan of Sioux City visited the Flynn home Sunday. Miss Catherine Spaulding from Yankton College visited over Thanksgiving at her parents home. A group of young girls attend sewing classes at Congregational church parlors each Saturday afternoon led by Mrs Keith Knapp with refreshments served. Don’t forget Christmas sale on Thursday December 12. Mrs Rose Burke and granddaughter Edith Catherine Bergum spent the weekend with Akron relatives Mr and Mrs Chas Green who have managed the Emma Anderson farming interests near Elk Point and have taken rooms in the Russell Waterbury residence.

Union Creek church and community events listed

Union Creek hosts Sunday communion at 3 PM and a Sunday school practice at 1 PM for the Christmas program. The Luther League annual meeting and Christmas party are set for December 17 at Luther Hall. Local residents and visitors share visits and Thanksgiving gatherings across Sioux City Ida Grove Minnesota Parker South Dakota and Pukwana.
