Record corn under aid hits Plymouth County high

Plymouth County records show 1,284,488 bushels of 1980 crop corn under price support, announced by Wm. Schnopf, county ASCS chair. Nationally, 1960 crop corn under support totals 687.8 million bushels with loans, storage, and purchase agreements.

Iowa Women to Host Six-State Convention in Des Moines

Iowa Republican women will host a six-state convention in Des Moines at Hotel Savery in early September. The Iowa Council with 13,000 members will meet with Republican women from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Key speakers include Republican National Committee chair William E. Miller and national president Mrs. J. B. Parks. Event runs Sept 11–12 with tours, luncheons, and panel discussions. registration details to be announced.

Children Help Offered by Iowa Children's Home Society

Plymouth County residents prepare letters supporting the Iowa Children’s Home Society, aiding children in care with foster families, case workers, and nonsectarian statewide services. Since 189? the agency has helped over 23,000 children, with about 300 in care at any time and over 600 served annually.

Education and highways account for half of total direct expenditure by state and local governments. More than four-fifths of education outlays come from communities, about two-thirds of highway spending comes from states.
