Special Correspondent reports Chatsworth PCOC club honored three members with birthdays in August at a party hosted by Mrs. Jessie Hendrieke. Delicate treats were served and neighbors dropping in included the Lake family visitors from Sioux City and many local families from Hawarden Akron Akron and Morningside guests. Community members recalled past games as the Chatsworth ladies softball team finished their season with a 36 to 16 win over Hawarden.
A local effort seeks support to create a family friendly entertainment space with tickets at 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for under 12. Contributions of any size are welcomed to help Mr and Mrs Ray Welch celebrate the arrival of two granddaughters on August 27, Lynette Marie, with congratulations to Jim and Dorothy Welch.

The Akron Jaycees invite men ages 21 to 35 to join a civic service group offering leadership training through community work. Members gain speaking ability, practical courses, and networking with local leaders, with meetings starting September 4 at 8:00 p.m. President John Ziniel urges participation to build a better Akron.

Local teachers Tanise Holtkamp Wilma Ransom from Akcot Community School attended the first annual State Teachers Workshop on Improved Education at Sinpaon College in Indianola Iowa August 12 to 14 1908. Demonstrations showcased innovative programs used by town teachers with Dr Evelyn M Carswell delivering remarks and reacting to innovations during sessions.
At noon on August 25 the Gabel family reunion gathered in Akron park with 114 attendees. The group included numerous Gabel relatives and spouses from Akron LeMars Aurelia Marcus Merrill Lake Park Rochester and Denver among others. Attendees noted Mr. and Mrs. Thorpe recently returned from Germany and plan to settle in LeMars.
In the first week of school there is chatter about old bells and tardy warnings. A reader recalls a rainbow morning and shares a gift of Corn Cob Jelly in a green lid jar tied with corn cob. The jelly, bought at a Clothes-Line Sale, is praised as delicious and fondly remembered.
Charles Wilder Raynor 66 of Howardion died Monday night in a ey train crash near Eawariten. Born May 28 1913 he lived in the Aleran ward area most of his life. Survived by son Charles Jr of Concord California two brothers Melvin of Concordia Kansas and Ede of BIK Pointy nieces nephews and great nieces. Funeral Friday August 23 at Dow Funeral Chapel Ha warden with Rev Kay Boyens officiating burial Riverside Cemetery Akron Town. Organist Mrs Don Hinmel and soloist Mrs Rod Wilbeck assisted. Pallbearers listed. Funeral home note ends with ad for Want Ad services.
