Westfield residents shared visits and greetings as families traveled to Detroit and Martinsburg Nebraska. The Congregational church held its annual picnic with good attendance while churchgoers attended weddings and hospital updates. A new baby arrived in Hawarden and local clubs planned a teacher reception for the upcoming school term.

Four decades ago F E Burke and Clair Mc Corkell attended the ith district convention of the Rural Mail Carriers association at LeMars. Marel Bennett resumed teaching in Hawarden after summer work at the University of Montana. Akron beat Westfield 12 to 5 in a Labor Day baseball game at Riverside. New twins born to the Feauto family on Sept 2 1928 and a son to Edward McDougall on Sept 5 1928 and a daughter born to John in Salem on Sept 3. Akron prepares to open a new jewelry store with L K Burker of Alton renting space in the Register-Tribune building.
Fifty years ago Lester Golden fractured his right wrist when starting his auto. Mrs. J. B. Fleming and her son visited from Sioux City with Miss Freda Caskey at the Caskey home. Akron Public Schools planned to open September 9 with seven new teachers and six former instructors. Mrs. Jacob Bartelson, Ponca Nebraska, daughter of A. Strobel, Akron, died after a buggy ride accident. A farewell party at the Christian church basement saw My. and Mrs. H. Rohrer leave their general merchandise store for a new life in Rozeunass Montana.
