Westfield hosts antiques exhibits and local events

Westfield Centennial Celebration Marks Local History

Westfield Iowa celebrates its centennial Friday and Saturday August four and five at the junction of highway twelve and Plymouth county road A. The event honors Westfield Sioux and Hancock townships, tracing settlers from 1856 led by David M. Mills, first sheriff of Plymouth County. Mills, his wife Sarah Robinson, and five of seven children are buried on land once part of their 1240 acres south of Westfield.

Akron Iowa Town Council budget hearing and actions 1967

The Akron Iowa town council held a special July 25 1967 budget hearing with Mayor Pro Tem Clarence Hummel present along with council members Philips Kilstrom Trotzig and Tucker. The meeting reviewed publication affidavits, heard taxpayers, adopted the final budget and tax levy and approved Walter Klemme liquor license. vacation periods for four employees were accepted.

Sunnyside High School and Local Churches in Westfield Area

A historical sketch notes Sunnyside High School near Milnerville operating 1910 to 1929, now Sioux Township Hall. Westfield Congregational Church organized 1898 with 1899 building. St Catherine’s Catholic Church erected 1903. Belle Vista and Hancock Township landmarks, 4-H clubs, women’s groups, and multiple churches define a small community economy centered on farms, retail, and a public library. County Old Settlers and Historical Society Meeting

County Old Settlers and Historical Society invites all to a noon basket lunch on Saturday at Westfield Congregational Church in Plymouth. A memorial service, music, and illustrated talk by Roger Banks and David Lilly on Indians who wed here precede a program by the Town Archaeological Society highlighting local digs including Cherokee and other Midwestern sites.

Union County F B News Hosts Officers Dinner

Mr and Mrs Amos Bidem entertained the officers and executive board of the Union County fire department in a social gathering. The event aimed to strengthen ties and discuss upcoming union activities and community service plans.

Alcester Farm Bureau plans Sept 18 meeting program

On Monday evening July 24 the Alcester Farm Bureau finalized plans for the September 18 meeting to be held at the Alcester City Audatorium. Events include a tall coin contest, flower show, and domino bake off. Committees were named for Alcester Achievement days and the resolutions committee is led by Robert Ofstehege with Donald Hanson Edsel Holden Severna Klemme James Daily Donald Austin and Robert Root. Harold Ballinger gave an insurance report. Thank you notes from 4-H clubs were read for their earned ensh aarts, and Mrs. Eidem provided lunch.
