Iowa eyes larger winter wheat output with June 1 acreage at 180000, up 64 percent from 1966, and total production forecast at 24 million bushels, a 39 percent rise. U S. winter and spring wheat expected higher production, while 1967-68 carryover could reach about 600 million bushels amid lower stock levels and strong prices.
Iowa Highway Director J R Coupal Jr says new U S Bureau of Public Roads safety standards should be applied with reasonableness and will not disrupt the state highway program. He notes $22 million in July September projects would largely proceed with minor modifications, though about $18 million might be deferred if full compliance were required. The memo exempts roads under 750 cars daily and Clarifies secondary highway projects begun before July 1, 1967 and under construction by January 1, 1968 will be accepted when completed.
