Iowa State University invites high school graduates to join the fifth annual community journalism short course from June 8 to July 16. The program teaches news writing editing advertising and photography with on campus living and tours of publishers. Cost is 275 dollars covering room board and tuition. The Akron FFA chapter held a Parent-Son Night April 16 in the Akron School Auditorium with officers leading, guests introduced by Bob Wych, and officials Gail Hemmingsen and Harlan Klave present. Awards included foundation honors for Bruce Hemmingsen, Alan Sommervold, Richard Oetken, Kenny Less, and others, plus installation of 1966 67 officers and a screening of Four Star Farmers of America 1962.
Data from the State Department of Public Instruction shows 23,848 of 40,859 Iowa public high school graduates in 1965 continued formal education. Most enrolled in four year colleges, with significant shares in public and private institutions, community colleges, and trade or technical schools. Apprenticeship and nurses training also count, with out of state attendance and decade-long comparison noted.
China Burma India WWI veterans and families meet April 30 and May 1 at the new Holiday Inn in Waterloo for their annual spring convention. Iowa Basha commander Donald V. Doyle of Sioux City and adjutant Ray Alderson of Dubuque lead the group with K. L. Kober of Waterloo in charge. Registration starts at noon Saturday with tours for adults and children. A banquet Saturday night and a Sunday picnic at Exchange Park are planned. the convention welcomes CBS veterans and guests.
