National Watershed Congress Sets Iowa Tour and Talks

The 12th National Watershed Congress runs April 25-28, 1965 in Sioux City with tours of the Little Sioux and other watersheds. Governor Morrison delivers the keynote. discussions cover land treatment, planning and financing, with a banquet featuring Betty Hendon and others. Reservations come from 36 states, first in Iowa/Midwest.

Obituary of Everett P. Marple from Garland area

Everett Peter Marple 42 born October 25 1922 in Union county South Dakota. Son of J S and Bertha Marple he farmed in Garland until multiple sclerosis forced retirement. Survived by daughters Bernetta Jean and Arlowene Ann of South Sioux City Nebr mother and sister Elvera Akron plus many relatives. Services were at Big Springs April 8 with burial at Brule Creek cemetery.

Cooperator of the Month Named in Plymouth County

Melvin Ahrendsen of Plymouth and Washington townships named Cooperator of the Month for April by county commissioners. He began soil conservation on his farms in 1951 and 1953, building 10.1 and 10.3 miles of terraces respectively, with contouring and terracing expanding into pasture and row crops. A watershed needs inventory session April 8 discussed flood damage, bottom lands, and gully control, with 46 watersheds evaluated and plans for James and other watersheds outlined.
