Miss Nancee Lee Husk daughter of Westfield Iowa and Keith Bowane Edmands son of Sioux City were married at Morningside Baptist Church on Saturday. Bride wore chantilly lace gown with crystals and veil crowned with pearls. Attendants included Carla Husk Verna French and Dianna Husk with pink flowers. Best man Roger Edwards and ushers Gary Olgan Steve Husk Gary Edwards Dave Erwin. Reception followed in the grand hall. The couple will reside in Alvon Iowa.

Twenty years ago Akron farmers were solicited for subscriptions to fund a new rural fire truck for the Akron Fire Department. Akron High track team placed well at the Holstein Relays in division B, scoring 12 points among eight B teams. Junior High relay won a special event. In baseball, Akron High School defeated Merrill High 20 to 7, with 13 and hits recorded. Battery for Akron included Nall Ball and Gale. Births announced: a daughter to Mr and Mrs F F Kerr on April 11, 1947, and a daughter to Mr and Mrs Frank Thayer on April 11, 1947. Reverend B L Jackson and family celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on April 18, 1947. An auto collision near Westfield involved Hawarden youths and Paul Von Hagel with minor injuries and car damage. S Sgt Clayton Small returned from Germany after reenlistment. Married note lists Mrs W Gniadek and Christ, son of Mr and Mrs Fred Beech of Akron on April 5, 1947 at Point Point, Dak. The bride is Esther Richters.

40 years ago the town council held special sessions to receive applications for the position of superintendent of the light plant. Dr G H Wooten was summoned to Yaning Michigan after the death of his mother Elizabeth Wooten aged 94. Steady rains over a week improved soil conditions. Local business men planned a meeting to discuss graveling mulched roads into Akron from the Dakota side. Mrs Jane Waterbury moved from Sioux City to her son Fred’s home. Public school teachers attended the Southwest district convention of the Iowa Teachers Association in Sioux City. Henry Willer shipped five carloads of fed cattle to the Chicago market.
Sixty years ago pupils of St. Joseph's parochial school staged a musical recital at the opera house on April 41 1917. Mr and Mrs C H Maxson mourn a daughter in law Mrs Mervin Maxson and seven children survive. F J Swanson contracts James Reed for a new residence at Second and Main. Thieves take James G Hays auto. $100 reward offered. Percy Harrington opens a tire shop south of the Savings Bank. Akron businessmen form a Community Club with temporary officers. Born August son of Mr and Mrs Saver Sommervold on April 17 1917. A patriotic rally is set for April 18 1917 at the opera house to honor local young men.
Veterans of other wars were to be given places of honor at the rally. A banquet at $1 a plate was to be served, along with a program. The message calls for volunteers answering their country's call and outlines modest fundraising and ceremony details.

Special election approved a 10 mill levy to fund a new Akron public school addition, with 2 200 dollars allocated. Local sports report shows Akron High School 10 Hawarden 7. Union County officials announce a six month no grazing period for diverted acres under the 1967 Feed Grain Program starting March 31 1967 and ending October 1 1967. Participants with Conservation Reserve and Cropland Adjustment programs must also refrain from grazing or cutting hay on diverted land for the life of their agreements. About 902 farmers signed up for the commodity diversion programs for corn and grain sorghum in Union County.
The Rural Home Culture Study group met at Ethel Harris's home on April 7 with 15 members answering the roll call. Miriam Hemmingsen spoke on International and Public Affairs, Maxine Gerrietts presented a 50 minute Easter Story program, and plans were announced for the annual luncheon on May 11 at The Biltmore in Sioux City with members meeting Caryl Sieben's home at 11:80 AM for transport.
