Westfield residents helped clean area schools last Friday in a litter pickup. Veterans of World War I held a meeting in Le Mars electing George Bern as Commander and Dora Bern as Auxiliary President. Community visits noted with Michele Lyn celebrating two years. Board of Education set for April 19 at 8 p.m. Kitchen chatter shares tips on using a hoe as a measuring stick and nutrition tips with wheat germ. Chatsworth Chats Sympathy Extends to M Puhl Family

Sympathy is extended to the M Puhl family by the death of Mr Puhl who passed away at the Nursing Home in Le Mars. Former Chatsworth resident Henry Steinhart visited in Henry Collmann’s home and luncheon. Various visits and Sunday gatherings are listed including families from Akron Hawarden Correctionville and Sioux City with several travel and church connections. The Moehlmanns attended William Frerichs funeral at Preston Lutheran Church rural Akron.

Akron High School drama presents three one acts

About 300 play-goers attended last week as Akron High School’s drama department staged three one act plays. Buzz Buzz explored loves of a serviceman’s companion, a traffic court judge suffered from ulcers, and Antic Spring showed couples on a spring picnic. The box office totaled 240 dollars and 10 cents, marking a successful evening.

Sioux Viking Lodge social and travel slide show event

Governor Ray sets six week Iowa environmental action program

Governor Robert Ray launches a six week statewide Environmental Action Program in Iowa. Earth Week runs April 9 to 14 emphasizing soil conservation tree planting and outdoor recreation. Subsequent weeks include State Watershed Arbor Iowa Beautification Keep the Scene Green with National Guard involvement and seed blocks for fourth graders.

William Frerichs 61 Dies After Long Illness in Akron

William Claus Frerichs aged 61 died Wednesday April 11 after a long illness at a nursing home. Funeral held 2 p.m. Saturday April 14 at St John Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Akron with Rev James Santvik officiating. Burial followed in church cemetery. A prayer service was held Friday April 13 at Schroeder Funeral Home. Born March 2, 1912 in Akron, he farmed in Plymouth County before moving to Akron in 1959. Survived by parents Henry R. Frerichs and wife, and brothers Alvin Hawarden IA Henry Jr Maurice and Marvin and Darnold Sioux City.
