Mrs G Moller and Mrs H Collmann were callers in Sioux Center last Monday morning. Jack Lake and son Scott of Sioux City were supper guests at the H Collmann home. The Mollers visited the John Mailer home near Craig Monday evening. G Moehlmann and family were business callers in Hawarden Monday morning. Jack Popken of Akron visited his brother Dick and then they went to Hawarden for business. Reuben Buchman visited. Lizzie Anderson dined with the A DeRaad family last Sunday. later guests were Kenneth Miller and Fanny McKee. Clara Satthoff called at Akron one day last week. Visitors to the John Bultman home last Sunday included Hattie Bultman, Donald Boetger of Akron, and Dennis Bultman and family. The past week Dennis Bultman’s hosts were Hugh Dowling and family. Mrs Harold Dowling, Matt, Mrs Otto Meins and John Bultman were also present. Edna Marshall of Ireton was a Sunday afternoon visitor to her sister Clara Satthoff. Mr and Mrs C Dennison were Sunday evening visitors at Elk Point with Arnold Steckenburg. George Moehlmann’s guests for dinner last Sunday included Dora Bonnema, Lena Koppert of Le Mars, and Irene Robb of Michigan. Henry Collmann and Gerhard Moller visited Sioux City last Sunday for dinner and to celebrate Mrs Lake’s birthday with Jack Lake and family. Mrs H Collmann joined Colin Collmann last Thursday for the U P W meeting at Plymouth Presbyterian Church rural Akron. hostess was Mrs Connie Toben.
William James Austin, born February 17 1900 in Akron Iowa, died April 1 after a brief illness in St. Alexius hospital Bismarck North Dakota. A lawyer who served as Burleigh County judge until retirement in 1971, he is survived by wife Mary of Bismarck son Dr William Austin of Bismarck two daughters Maria Johnson Simsbury Conn Bonnie Allatis of Bismarck and four grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents James M Austin and Aliie Douglass Austin of Ellendale.
Mrs. Wendel Borchers expresses gratitude for cards flowers gifts and visits during hospital stay at Akron Hospital and St Luke Medical Center. She thanks Dr Trotzig Dr Mumford hospital staff and parish pastor for prayers and care and notes food helped their family. God bless all.

Nursing home residents and visitors fill a March week with Birthday celebrations, church group activities, and family drop ins. Elsie Anderson celebrated her 85th birthday with gifts and flowers as relatives gathered from Le Mars, Westfield, Moville, Spencer, Kingsley, and Sioux City to attend services, share sandwiches, and enjoy the day.
In 1963 April 18 report notes Boy Scouts plan Good Turn Day with volunteers delivering from door to door. The week brings mild weather though strong 40 to 45 mph gas winds hit area. no rain yet. A son born March 28 to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce McInnis appears in local notes. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Lewison Jr escaped serious injury in an auto crash near Indiandia while en route to Mr. Line's funeral. Akron Bowl hosts the 4th annual ABC Handicap tournament from April 20 to May 12.
The Union county Farm Mutual Fire Insurance Association held its annual meeting on March 27 in Alcester city auditorium. The secretary reported 7,494,785 of insurance written in 1972 and 27,943,720 in force. Assets as of January 1, 1973 stood at 105,677.85. Directors for three year terms were Leslie Pergease Roy Ludwig and Wendell Leafstedt. Officers elected were Claude Dean president Leslie Bergdale vice president Dwight Nylund treasurer and Wendell Leafstedt secretary.
Mrs Gene R Olsen 3301 Virginia St Sioux City died April 9 after brief illness. Born in Akron Iowa she moved to Sioux City in 1931 and worked at Wincharger Zenith and Dyna Technology. Survived by widower son William Davis daughter Daryl Banks eight grandchildren and several siblings. Nelson Berger Northside Funeral Home directed arrangements.

Lucille Dennison of Westfield and Barbara Kunkel of Westfield were admitted to St Vincent's and St Luke's respectively on Monday April 2. Robert Brodie of Le Mars was admitted to St Joseph on Tuesday April 3 and is father of Mal Brodie of Akron. John A Welch of Akron was admitted to St Joseph on Wednesday April 4.

Herman M. Ahrens 84 of Alcester South Dakota died April 4 1973 at Hawarden hospital Funeral services were held at United Church of Christ Alcester Burial was in Akron cemetery He was born September 18 1888 in Morrison Illinois came to Akron in 1894 and married Lena Jacobs in 1912 later to Carrie Tucker in 1963 They lived east of Akron then moved to Alcester in 1966 Survivors include his wife three stepsons two brothers two sisters and other relatives
The Home Culture Club met April 3 in Harriet Tucker’s home with nine members present. Roll call featured a current event. Margaret Peters reviewed John Pollock’s book The Apostle A Life of Paul. Luncheon was served by the hostess.

Morris Lindsay Powell died April 6 1973 at University Hospital Iowa City after months of illness. Born Aug 2 1952 in Hawarden he attended Mount Hope School Akron Community School and Akron High class of 1970. Survived by parents Arnold and Margaret Powell brother Marvin sister Marilyn Sommergold and relatives. Funeral at Union Creek Lutheran Church with interment in Union Creek Cemetery.

Jefferson school district voters approved two bond issues totaling 700,000 dollars for school additions and a 1.2 million dollar high school project, with construction planned within three years.

The Preston Peakly 4 H club met March 24 1973 at 2 00 pm at Jamie Sanduska's home. Fifteen members and one leader answered roll call with favorite animals. Five guests attended plus Junior Leader Lavonne Willer from Border Bells. Minutes read by Faye Molzen and approved. Bake sale set for April 14 from 9 am to 2 pm at Dr Garvin's office. Faye Molzen and Nancy Wales are County Council candidates, Nancy also a Leadership Conference candidate. Jamie Sandvik demonstrated dishwasher use. Kathy Klemme and Susan Lucken organized recreation, game Who's Missing? knitting help from Mrs Arlen Lucken and Mrs Gene Toben. Lunch served by Jamie and Sandvik.
Akron Junior Achievers 4-H met at Nancy Snater's home on Monday April 2 with 16 members and 3 leaders in attendance. Janelle Dirks chaired, Lisa Caskey led the pledge, Lori Heeren took roll and led show and tell on furniture styles. Beth Schroeder elected vice president. treasury noted at 60 dollars 52 cents. a requested donation of 9 dollars from IF YE was approved to be drawn from the treasury. Upcoming events listed include Intermediates roller skating April 11, Speech and Music Contest May 15, Madrid and Gnawa Iowa camp July 5, and Annual Meeting June 6.
