Former Akron Folks Injured in Highway Accident

Frank Bennett and Robert McMahon, both of LeMars and Sioux City, were injured when their car was broadsided by a vehicle driven by Richard Davis of Olathe Kansas near Kansas City while en route to visit Sandra Joan McMahon. Bennett sustained rib injuries and cuts, Clarence McMahon suffered a neck injury broken collarbone and broken ribs, and his wife had cuts and bruises. All were transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center and reported resting easily with improving condition. The other car’s occupants had minor injuries except the driver’s wife who had a leg fracture. Bennett, father of Mrs Wilix Huebner, is a former local resident who recently lost his wife Ruth in a prior accident. Local friends extend wishes for a speedy recovery.

Combined meeting in Akron opens Crusade drive

The northwest and southwest areas held a joint meeting March 80th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron with 30 attendees. Mrs. R. C. Hodgson of Plymouth County Cancer Society led, Irene Tatman of Spirit Lake spoke, two film strips were shown, and Crusade material was distributed. Area and town chairs were named: northwest Mrs. Jack Popken, southwest Mrs. Frank Emmick, Westfield Mrs. Ed Nelson, Akron co-chairs Mrs. Cliff Miller and Mrs. J. P. Trotzig.

Jacob M Blum Called By Death

Jacob M Blum a former resident here died Monday April 4 at Leads Nursing Home Sioux City after a long illness aged 90 years 5 months 11 days. He was born October 24 1875 at Sublette Illinois son of Peter and Mrs Blum early Akron residents. He was a member of St Patrick s Catholic church. Survivors include two brothers Frank Westfield and Edward Akron. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in St Patrick s Catholic church with Rev J G Assel officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Miniature Biography of Sarah Jammerthal Chambers

Sarah Jammerthal Chambers was born on a farm near Akron in 1891 and lived her life in the area. She grew up on the farm, attended country school, and married Will Chambers in 1924. After his 1932 death she cared for her brother until 1949, then moved to Akron. She enjoyed outside work and neighborly visits. She had two children and six grandchildren.
