The State Board of Public Instruction released a study showing Iowa districts use four methods to select school board members. It found 99 districts use all members elected at large, 65 divide into director districts, 92 elect at large for part of the seats, and 45 divide with director districts for all seats. About 85 percent of electors feel communities should vote on all candidates.

Adult Basic Education programs reach 1300 Iowa adults

Iowa offers 20 Adult Basic Education programs for adults 18 plus who struggle with reading and writing in communities including Anamosa Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. Over 1,300 adults are enrolled with 50 teachers providing in person instruction at various local sites and materials supplied free. Programs are 90 percent federally funded and 10 percent locally funded under the State Department of Public Instruction.

Superior Chevrolet Fuel Economy In 1966 Mobil Run

Chevrolet claimed superiority in the Mobil Economy Run with full sized Chevrolets winning classes EB and F for six and eight cylinder engines. A Corvair Monza placed third overall in class A with 23.25 mpg on the 3,800 mile Los Angeles to Boston trip. Pat and Pam Sawyer of Hemet California won class E with 21.04 mpg in a six cylinder Biscayne. In class F the Impala with 427 cubic inch engine led at 19.87 mpg, while Paul Prior of Troy Michigan took second in a Caprice at 18.68 mpg.
