Western Iowa Tech Community College invites about 120 Siouxland high schools juniors and seniors to a prospective student day on Monday April 7. Attendees tour the 4647 Stone Avenue Sioux City campus meet instructors and try hands on demonstrations across career programs. Activities include building trades at Ida Grove and beef feedlot programs near Lawton with invitations extended to Iowa Nebraska and South Dakota schools.
The United Brethren Association and Pleasant Hill Chapel plan a joint yearly meeting at the Chapel on Monday April 14 at 8 p.m. Easter weekend visitors include Ted Miller and many relatives from Sioux City, Stinton Texas, Omaha, and Minnesota. A correction notes Josie Weidenfeller served Catholic church organs for 67 years and a death notice reports G Johnson of Castana Iowa passing with funeral services held.

Ida Aalfs former Akron resident celebrated her 80th birthday with a surprise party Sunday March 16 at Rancho Huntington Mobile Park Huntington Beach California. The event drew about 250 attendees including many former Akron residents with extended families from Chatsworth Santa Ana Corona and other nearby communities. Notables present included Don Boden Gordon Boden Louise Boden Lenore Sanford Arnold Gale Roger Lamoureux Katherine Keane Larry Germaine Larry Morrison C J Keane Gary Ralfs Claire Gosly Shirley Chavez Amy Chavez Jane Hall and Bill Hall among others.
Former resident Miss Mary Bassett of Sioux City announces engagement to Louis Sprenger III. The Sprenger family, longtime Sioux City residents, previously lived in rural Akron. An October wedding is planned.
Chatsworth residents shared social visits including Colin Collmann and daughter Melanie in the Henry Collmann home. Ken Johnson and family of Omaha were guests and returned home after weekend visits with local families. Senior Citizens announce a meeting on April 1 at City hall at 2 p.m. if weather allows. Local families hosted visitors from Morningside Hawarden Anoka Ireton and Monticello while relatives from Minnesota and Iowa continued weekend stays.
The Siouxland Youth Symphony plans several spring appearances. On April 5 at 9:30 a.m. they perform before the Music Educators convention. The annual spring concert is set for April 27 at 4 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, Sioux City.

Akron couple Mr. and Mrs. Fred 2. Claesson Jr. will celebrate their Silver Wedding on Saturday April 5 1975 with an open house at Akron Country Club from 7 to 1. Relatives and friends invited no gifts requested. They married April 4 1950 in Sioux City and have farmed in Westfield township since. Mrs Delperdang and Fred Claesson’s daughter Nancy and her husband Steve Tonkin host from Webster City.
Mr and Mrs John Phillips of Emmetsburg Iowa announce the engagement of their daughter Susan Diane to Terry Lee Muth of Hawarden He is the son of Mr and Mrs Vincent Muth also of Hawarden The couple plan to marry June 7 at Emmetsburg Iowa Susan and Terry are students at the Iown Lakes Community college at Emmetsburg Terry is a 1972 graduate of Akron Community high school
Akron Assembly No 172 Order of the Rainbow for Girls plans Rainbow Sunday observance on April 6 at Westley United Methodist Church. Founded April 6, 1922 by Rev. W. Mark Sexson, the organization now has about 3,000 assemblies and 200,000 members worldwide. TOPS 893 held its weekly meeting at 100 Reed St with 19 members present. Officers were installed in a candlelight ceremony, each candle symbolizing a specific office, followed by duties review and a re dedication of all members. Best adult loser shed 3 pounds and best pre teen loser 14 pounds. By laws were reviewed and the meeting adjourned by Judy Klemme.
Plymouth county Cowbelles will meet Monday April 7 at 7 30 p m in the First National Bank meeting room Le Mars. All Cowbelles urged to attend with a prospective member. Plans for the year will be discussed including membership renewals and new sign up. A feature will be guessing the average weight of six Cowbelle officers with a beef product prize for the nearest guess. Cowbelles are associate members of the Cattlemen's organization and have been organized one year in Plymouth county.
