An 82 year old farmer, George Rathbone, vanished after leaving his home Monday afternoon to fetch the cows. A large neighbor search, growing to about 50 people, failed to find him as theories of kidnapping or murder arise while authorities and residents inspect two miles square area. The case echoes unsolved local mysteries.
Leonard Lewisohn, copper magnate of New York, died in London March 5. In his will he left charity gifts to his nine children to decide. The siblings have agreed to contribute 100000 each, totaling 900000, toward charitable purposes. Estate value estimated between 20 and 30 million dollars.
H C Corson of New York and Akron Rubber Works owner on the Nile last winter unearthed a nine scarab bracelet. The stones likely date to ancient Egypt with inscriptions of Pharaohs predating pyramid builders. The scarabs, cut in obsidian in the Beetle form, were worn as amulets by ancient Egyptians and are described as valuable by Rubber World.
Five intoxicated tramps forced entry to a Pullman car on a Toledo railroad yesterday night. They fought railroad workers when roused at Tinadale sidetrack. Captured and jailed at Cleveland Central police station after a scuffle with officers.
Chicago July 2 Bank notes totaling six thousand five hundred were found hidden in two tomato cans in the cellar of the Integra science firm on Washington Heights. The money was estate funds of John Simson, which a widow refused to produce under probate order, leading to nine months in jail for contempt. The woman died later after a prolonged decline, at Eaglewood Union Hospital on April 2.
Chicago July 2 A wage rise of 35 to 40 percent will be demanded by employees of the Union Traction Company who have joined the Amalgamated association The move follows a pledge not to press such a demand within a year and mirrors a similar request made on the Chicago City Railway Company The proposed scales include 30 cents more per hour for motormen with trailers 28 cents for men on mingle electric cars and 20 cents for cable car workers.
Washington July 2 The annual report of Chief Wilkie shows 578 arrests under federal statutes with New York leading at 85 prosecutions. Of offenders 63 percent were convicted, 413 American-born. Note counterfeiting incidents include a five dollar silver certificate and a single passable one dollar note. New York district shows major decline in silver counterfeit activity. The report urges a distinctive size for smaller notes to curb raising and counterfeit schemes.
In East Liverpool on Tuesday Kilward Buchheit pleaded guilty to a gun violation and was sentenced to Mansfield reformatory. His parents, Mr and Mrs John Buchheit, reside near Akron.
Water runoff from Jar St and Way causes damage to the Garbach garden at 107 Poplar Street. John and Mary Garbach notify the city of intent to seek damages totaling $20.

Three brothers Mike Simon and Luke Shuokine were involved when a Mahoning Valley transmission line near Struthers four miles east of Leam was struck. Luke died from a fractured skull. Siegmund Guthmann vice president of Guthmann Carpenter and Ling shot himself at his home in Chicago on July 2. The other members of the firm could not explain the cause.
Special Correspondence from Barberton reports a pistol discharge near the Barberton Inn when clerk A Hine fired toward what officers say were burglars or observers. Hine was seized by police, released to the Posey House overnight, and charged with discharging a firearm within city limits. He pleaded not guilty. bond set at 50 dollars. case set for Thursday.
Cleveland July 2 Dr F W Daykin was bound over to the Common Pleas court after a preliminary hearing in Police court on a charge of offering councilman Kohl 5000 to vote against granting a franchise to East Ohio Natural Gas. Bond fixed at 10000 then reduced to 5000. Kohl testified Daykin claimed others were fixed and could profit from the telephone deal and street car ordinance. The courtroom sparked with excitement as witnesses pressed for details while Daykin remained unshaken.
George F. Wellhouse and Albert D. Aunt sue John W. Hein seeking a court order to restrain interference with their steamer business and dock privileges on Summit park lake side. They say Mendes Bros leased them exclusive landing rights and Hein built his own dock near theirs after being asked to leave. The plaintiffs urge removal of Hein's dock and recognition of their exclusive waterfront rights.
A 100 mile road is planned to link a city with Groux City Iowa and is slated for completion in two years. Weather note mentions Mr H G Swigart of Silver Street has left for Circleville where he serves as chief engineer of the railroad. Probable Thursday forecasts indicate fair conditions tonight with showers.
