Vida L Griffiths files for divorce from Gomer A Griffiths in Holmes County Common Pleas. They wed January 2 1898 and share one child. She accuses him of adultery and alleges he stole her bank book from their home on April 20 1897.
A compilation of court actions and legal notices includes a jury verdict in Seth N. Rigby vs Northern Ohio Railroad for 2000 dollars after a 26 hour jury deliberation, prior trial awards of 2750 dollars, and related civil actions. Other items reference bankruptcy and partition petitions, with religious and cultural notices noting Father Moran’s temperance lecture and Messiah concert ticket sales and college enrollment promotions.
William Robinson ex Engineer of Cuyahoga Falls testified in the Shumway case Friday denying payments to influence outcomes. He admitted writing letters to S G Swigart and said the salary arrangement hides a take off. He named James Isbester and described a meeting with Solicitor Prior about errors amid fears of bodily harm.
The letter from L A Ross of Protection Kansas praises Postum Food Coffee for improving kidney trouble after giving up traditional coffee. She claims heart and indigestion relief, endorses instructions for proper preparation, and states she will never use other coffee while Postum is available.
The East Ohio Gas Co will charge after January 1 1900 the cost price for all natural gas but will continue at the 1898 price until that time. Applications filed before January 1 will be handled at old prices. Streets not yet piped will be piped in spring if enough applications come in, with all applicants receiving the same rate for material and fittings as already piped streets.
Walter Delremple, accused by Ella J. Roehr of theft in a mayor's court affidavit filed December 1, was arrested in Toledo Saturday. Chief Harrison was notified by wire. Delremple was Roehr's bartender. Hammel's Business College advertises special rates for current pupils, with catalog contact at 226 280 2828 Main. Col C A Hard of Wooster is announced as a candidate for U S District Marshal.
Surprised bystanders say Mr. Wilson F. Seiberling of near Wadsworth and Miss Catherine Martin of Doylestown married in Youngstown on the eve of Thanksgiving week. The couple returned to Doylestown and kept the marriage secret while plans formed to reside near Wadsworth.
County Commissioners and O. and P. railroad officials met all day Friday but found no agreement on the Macedonia crossing. The railroad offered to build an iron bridge with stone abutments if a crossing 400 feet north is abandoned. The Board would pay 800 dollars toward the bridge and would not abandon the other crossing.
A gentlemen's gold ring with a ruby set and initials B.H. engraved inside is missing. A reward will be returned to the DemMocKar office. A Japanese tea event by the Ladies Social Society of West Congregational Church drew good attendance Friday evening. The Thorpe & Kile Company becomes Kile & Ford Company. Massillon coal operators' association head says the movement to form a merger has failed. An oratorical contest for the Athletic Association is planned at the High School next week with a preliminary Monday. Minnie Huger’s box social at Trinity Lutheran Church was well received. Suburban electric lines into Cleveland plan a union station there, to be completed next summer with cars sheltered. Universalist church closed its fair Friday night with recitations and music. Ladies' Aid served a dinner and netted a good sum. Royal Foresters held a smoker at Kubler & Rock Hall Friday night to mark moving into the new rooms.
