In Columbus on August 18 it is understood General Charles Dick will run for governor and Harry Daugherty is the chosen man, with Dick possibly stepping in as senator if Hanna cannot run. The Kürtz men confirm this version, though it differs from Dick’s Akron interview.
A barberton hotel cook known as Cahoon drank carbolic acid in a bitter love crisis after threatening self harm. He had pursued Mrs. Clark, a hotel waitress, and left two addresses for her. He died within twenty minutes. the coroner arrived as the body was sent to Durant's morgue. Mrs Pryor of Northampton watches over arrangements. Cahoon was about 48, with no children for Clark who is about 50.
City league officials plan an All Akron team to face Warrens next Saturday with ten or eleven players drawn from local clubs. Miss Ida F. Gayer suffered severe burns to her hands and body when a lamp exploded at 8 o clock Sunday at her home on Sumner street. Her father Mr Wm F Gayer wrapped her in a blanket and extinguished the flames before medical help arrived. Doctors say injuries will not prove fatal. she was moved to her uncle’s house for care as her mother is an invalid.
Special Correspondence from Barberton reports Mrs. Anni Long died of a left lung laceration caused by a calcareous deposit and ruptured blood vessel, with coroner ruling the death mysterious but natural.
James J. Mahony, president of the C I U, urges Akron to embrace a grand Labor Day with unity among unions, employers, merchants, and manufacturers.
