Cause of North Augusta fire remains unknown
State agents closed the case on the April 2007 North Augusta Country Club blaze without identifying a cause. Investigators found the office and dining area in flames when crews arrived early April 16, and the two story building was largely destroyed. Despite a search of the site and discussions with owner Fredrick Layman III, officials could not determine the fire origin or cause due to extensive structural damage.
