Aiken defeated Brookland-Cayce 34 to none while South Aiken beat North Augusta. Strom Thurmond rolled over Beaufort 34 to 0 and Midland Valley won 22 to 7 against Lexington. Silver Bluff edged Williston-Elko 12 to 0 with Wagener-Salley 34 Calhoun Falls 8. Blackville-Hilda Barnwell Edisto and other teams also listed with results.
AP reports Geoffrey Payne and Joe Kelsey were found guilty of murder for blowing a pipe bomb into 15 year old Melanie Richey’s mouth in Martinez Georgia. The jury deliberated at least four hours before returning verdicts with Payne and Kelsey each sentenced to life in prison. Payne refused to testify in his defense.

Aiken County Auditor Jean New tome said roughly 100000 property tax bills will be mailed by late October. Tax notices cover real property and other categories totaling about 10000 parcels. 1995 bills show rollback of county millage from 68 to 58.5 and school millage from 128.7 to 110.8, with town millages adjusted accordingly.
In Los Angeles O J Simpson, days from climax, told the court I did not and would not have committed this crime. After 361 days of jury selection, lawyers rested, jurors heard the law, while Simpson addressed the court and public opinion. Prosecutor Clark urged against the speech as improper, but Cochran's request prevailed.
Aiken County jury found Audrey Black not guilty on three murder related charges after a three day trial. Juror Helen Danley of Wagener said the panel never considered conviction and believed she was not guilty from the start. Black, who had slept through the killing of her husband Jimmy Black on July 26, 1994, left the detention center and spoke of rebuilding her life while considering her living arrangements.
The defense urged Simpson to waive testifying to deny murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Fred Goldman condemned the decision at a news conference calling Simpson a coward as the jury prepared for closing arguments after the weekend. The court will not sit Monday, with jury set to resume Tuesday for closing arguments.
