Two Get Life Sentences In Pipebomb Slaying

AP reports Geoffrey Payne and Joe Kelsey were found guilty of murder for blowing a pipe bomb into 15 year old Melanie Richey’s mouth in Martinez Georgia. The jury deliberated at least four hours before returning verdicts with Payne and Kelsey each sentenced to life in prison. Payne refused to testify in his defense.

Juror Helen Danley of Wagener said the panel never considered conviction and believed she was not guilty from the start. Black, who had slept through the killing of her husband Jimmy Black on July 26, 1994, left the detention center and spoke of rebuilding her life while considering her living arrangements.
