Regulators delay bottom fishing plan expansion
Federal regulators postpone final action on adding 12 new Marine Protected Areas along the Southeast coast to ban bottom fishing. The postponement aims to review NMFS reports on monitoring and enforcement before the December Wilmington council meeting. Public hearings could follow in August 2014 if the full council advances the proposal.

Water odor from Lake Hartwell prompts state alert
In Anderson and Upstate communities record rainfall has swollen Lake Hartwell. Decaying vegetation releases tannins causing foul tasting water though officials say it remains safe to drink, cook, and bathe. The health department monitors water treatment as sampling increases. In North Charleston a stabbing over Eagles music leads to criminal domestic violence charges. In Greenville the Bi Lo Center is renamed Bon Secours Wellness Arena after a $4.5 million naming-rights deal ending Bi Lo’s 15 year tenure. Columbia reports SC President Harris Pastides presents annual state of the university address outlining goals and progress.
