County approves Project Jackson follows 30 year TIF extension
Aiken County Council on Tuesday night approved continuing to participate in the North Augusta Tax Increment Financing plan for 30 more years totaling about 16.5 million in deferred property tax revenue for roughly 460 acres. The funds will back a proposed riverfront multi sports stadium conference center and parking structures in North Augusta as Project Jackson. Six council members supported the intergovernmental agreement with three opposing. one amendment creating a 1 percent extra capture if growth exceeds projections passed and will be added to a 349,744 annual rebate for 30 years. The original 1996 TIF deferred about 19.5 million with an eventual 10.5 million return after 2012 rate readjustment.

Singer's amendment would cap the County’s $8.8 million deferred taxes in the original TIF model. Rawls’ motions to shorten the TIF term and reduce acreage failed.
