Thirteen Aiken County Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Thirteen Aiken County students from Aiken High South Aiken High St Angela Academy Midland Valley High and North Augusta High advanced to semifinalist in the 1983 National Merit scholarships competition. The PSAT/NMSQT test screened over one million students with 15 000 named semifinalists. Winners announced next April and May.

Baxter Harriss Co. Must Clear Hazardous Chemicals by Friday

Charlotte fire officials said Baxter Harriss Co. must remove chemicals from two other warehouses by Friday after an earlier warehouse fire. Fire officials had known for weeks the firm stored hazardous Sodium hydrosulfide illegally at multiple sites and chose to work with the company rather than force immediate removal.
