North Augusta Paving Question Is Settled
At a Monday meeting of the county commissioners and delegation with North Augusta citizens present, the demand to pave the Dixie Highway from the Edgefield line through North Augusta to the 13th Street Bridge over the Savannah River was approved. Nine miles will be paved and North Augusta’s secession agitation from Aiken County ends.

Mrs. I. L. Cain, field worker for the South Carolina Anti tuberculosis Association, arrives in Aiken for September to aid the county Health Department in an anti tuberculosis campaign. A canvass will invite all tuberculosis cases and contacts to a clinic at the Health Department offices September 28 and 29 with a lung specialist and local doctors present. Potash Test Encouraging Findings From Government Core Drilling
A 1927 U S Geological Survey letter to Congressman Butler B Hare discusses the first government potash test under the Federal potash act of 1926. Core drilling by Interior and Commerce departments found about fifty beds with two percent or more potash between depths of 838 and 1770 feet, total depth 1847 feet. Fourteen beds range 1 inch to 6 feet 2 inches thick with 3.1 to 16.47 percent potash. Hare sees 80 beds of prospective strata supporting commercial deposits and potential fertilizer price reductions.
