Henry H. Tryon, South Carolina extension forester since 1924, resigns to become forester for the Stillman estate at Campwall New York. He leaves about September 15 after three years in Aiken and will oversee about 4000 acres along the Hudson. His tenure helped found a state forestry commission and foster timber production.

Still Raid Uncovers Large 230 Gallon Operation
Sheriff Rob inson aided by federal agent Lownes and Aiken deputies raided a Bogards Hill area still with 230 gallons capacity. They destroyed 2 800 gallons of one run whiskey, seven fermenters and doublers. Four gallons of whiskey were dumped. The plant was located on Pickens Greens property, the third plant seized in recent months.

No More Thursday Afternoon Closing In Aiken
With September starting yesterday the stores barbershops and garages of Aiken will stay open on Thursday afternoons for the first time since June. Clerks will have no more Thursday half holidays this year and merchants will work through a full week every week for nine months. The public will no longer face confusion about store hours and can seek accommodations any day of the week as autumn begins.

George A Wilson Dies in Graniteville at 66
George A. Wilson of Graniteville died at his home last Thursday night at age sixty six. He leaves his widow Mrs Keller Wilson two sons W H Wilson and J H Wilson of Graniteville one brother W J Wilson of Bath one half brother G L Cushman of Warrenville three half sisters Mrs Lelia Harden Mrs Minnie Murrell of Graniteville and Mrs A W Randall of Tampa Florida and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Town Creek Baptist church Saturday afternoon with Rev M D Toole officiating and interment followed in the church cemetery.

Three Escape From Aiken Jail Ends With One Recaptured
Three negro prisoners escaped from Aiken jail Saturday morning by prying two iron bars from a first floor window using an iron pipe. James Carter, Clarence Williams, and Jesse Johnson fled toward the railroad cut. Carter was recaptured near Wagoner Monday afternoon after a countywide search led by Sheriff Nellie Robinson and Deputy Arthur Sheppard. Johnson and Williams remain at large as deputies continue the hunt.
