The Aiken Institute opened its session Monday at nine o'clock with a scripture reading by Rev. Phillip J. McLean Jr. Envoy John Gomillion of the Salvation Army gave a short prayer. Superintendent W. Jay McGarity and Board Chairman P. F. Henderson welcomed pupils and introduced new teachers John W. Copeland Grace Milford Miriam McCullough and Alva M. Gregg the latter as physical director guiding football training plans.

Dr J B McMillan Dies At Graniteville At 69
Dr Joseph Bennett McMillan a prominent Graniteville physician died at his home last Sunday afternoon at age sixty nine. Funeral services were held Monday at Graniteville Methodist Church with Rev A B Ferguson Jr officiating. Burial followed with Knights of Pythias honors. Survived by widow Mrs Jane Speel McMillan two sisters Mrs Woodward and Miss Julia McMillan both of Graniteville five nephews J A C B J M M C and J L Holley of Augusta two nieces Mrs Elizabeth Holley and Mrs George Schaufele of Augusta. The Aiken Bar Association ruled out an extra court week with criminal court starting October 17 for two weeks solicitor Berte D Carter of Barberg attended the meeting Tuesday. Federal court set for September 26 and civil court in November.

Fatal wreck near Wagener claims Aquilla Scott
A Sunday collision on Coleman Bridge Road near Wagener killed Aquilla Scott and injured four others. In the wreck the cars rolled over and Scott was killed instantly. others were treated at Columbia Hospital and discharged except Carlisle Courtney. An inquest ruled the death an unavoidable accident.

Mrs Bell of Langley Dies After Prolonged Illness
Mrs Frank Jordan Bell aged eighty of Langley died at home after a long illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev T W Walker of Augusta officiating. She is survived by five sons Levi Bell Langley Marion Bell Aiken Edward Bell Orangeburg Arthur Bell Ben Bell Windsor and one daughter Mrs Annie Gresholm Augusta.

Hospitals gains an X ray unit for Aiken County
The Aiken County Hospital secures an X Ray machine through the board of directors led by R G Tarrant R L Gunter and George H Leitner with Dr J R Howell and Dr Hastings Wyman backing the project. The device will be economical to acquire and is expected to generate about a thousand dollars annually for the hospital while greatly aiding patient care. It should arrive in about a month and complete the hospital's medical equipment.
