Vang trial heads to jury in Aiken killing case
Kai Yang 18 testified that James Vang tried to steer him away from a robbery that turned fatal at Carlton Ennis pawn shop. Four defendants linked to a June 23, 1997, shooting in Aiken faced robbery and murder charges. Kess and Khingratsaiphon already sentenced. Yang’s testimony comes as Judge Keestey ordered a noon jury verdict to conclude Vang’s defense closing.

Aiken's Makin under way in downtown parkways
Thousands of craft hungry festival goers converge on downtown Aiken for the 24th annual Aiken's Makin. Libby Taylor says 250 craftspeople line Park Avenue from York Street to Hayne Avenue with vendors from as far as Texas. A tight lid on vendor locations was kept until 6 pm Thursday to prevent blocked roadways. Thirty food vendors will be on hand over the two day event.

Salleys mark 69 years of marriage in tribute to couple
Judge Hemrick N. Salley Sr. and Ena Boylston celebrate 69 years of marriage. He served 25 years as a county magistrate and is now 97. she is 99. The pair, longtime residents of Salley and descendants of local pioneers, remain active in church and civic life. They have one son, Hemrick N. Salley Jr., a retired pharmacist, and continue visiting their Edisto Island home.

PACT testing plan sought for changes in state tests
