South Carolina Hospitals Agree to End Early Nonessential C-Sections

About half of SC hospitals with maternity programs plan to stop elective deliveries before 39 weeks to improve newborn health and cut costs. All 45 hospitals intend to sign, but staff leadership must be set. The Birth Outcomes Initiative with the Medicaid agency and March of Dimes seeks to reduce low birth weight and prematurity.

School, officer sued in death of teen

The parents of a 16 year old student with Asperger's Syndrome killed by a school police officer at a Myrtle Beach high school sue the school system Horry County police and the officer Marcus Rhodes. They claim the officer was not properly trained to deal with students with disabilities and detail alleged failures in policy and supervision.

School cutback supervision ends with deadly office attack

Authorities say Trevor Warinecz attacked Rhodes with a bayonet in his office in October 2009 and was shot five times after a struggle. Rhodes sustained superficial injuries and prosecutors ruled the shooting justified. None of the school system police or Rhodes’ lawyer immediately commented.

Game console linked to double murder plea in Gaffney

In Cherokee County 22 year old Giles Palmer pled guilty to two counts of murder for killings of Dominique Morgan and William O Brian Smith who were playing a PlayStation 3 in a Gaffney home in January. He faces 30 years to life at sentencing. Palmer confessed after investigators traced the console to him. His attorney says he will testify against a second man facing murder charges.
