South Carolina Supreme Court rules the video poker referendum unconstitutional and bans the industry effective July 1, setting up a legislative clash. Opponents cheer while supporters vow to push for a legislative fix in January, with potential nonbinding votes later in the year.
Aiken County's chief magistrate faced an unexpected jury summons to appear in his own court on November 15 at 9 a.m. The juror notification warned that failure to appear could lead to contempt. He plans to attend but may seek an exemption for obvious reasons. the summons came from a computer-generated list.
Newly elected House member Robert S. Skip Perry, R Aiken, will take the oath in the Statehouse lobby in Columbia at 2 p m today. He will be welcomed to the county legislative delegation as Rep James Roland Smith, delegation chairman, says they will meet at 7 p m in North Augusta City Council chambers.
