Train and log truck collision derails train at Gum Swamp crossing
A 15 ton log truck collided with a CSX train at Gum Swamp Road in Beech Island injuring the driver Ronald Wade, 45, of Waynesboro Georgia. The truck was dragged 773 feet and 750 gallons of diesel spilled. No fatalities reported and tracks expected to reopen by morning.
Train wreck halts Gum Swamp crossing in Beech Island area
A collision between an unloaded log truck and a train near Gum Swamp Road disrupted traffic for hours. The driver, part of a Georgia logging crew, was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. no train injuries were reported. About 10 railcars derailed and hundreds of gallons of diesel spilled as crews worked to remove the wreckage and reopen the crossing.
