Crowds streamed past Generalissimo Francisco Franco’s body in Madrid as police heightened security after his death at 82 ending 36 years of rule. The open coffin lay in the National Palace Hall of Columns while 10 national leaders, led by Prime Minister Carlos Arias Navarro, stood guard.
Rep. Martha Keys of Manhattan Kansas and Rep. Andrew Jacobs Jr. of Indianapolis announce plans to marry in January becoming the first husband and wife serving in the House simultaneously. The ceremony will be small and held in Topeka Kansas. Both will keep their current names and addresses.
Ronald Reagan faced questions at a Bedford New Hampshire convention hall during a Citizen's Press Conference after a Miami toy pistol incident. Secret Service checkpoints secured the 900-person crowd as Reagan launched his presidential bid with autograph sessions and travel from Miami where a man displayed a plastic toy pistol.
Lynette Fromme appeared briefly in Sacramento amid her boycott of the trial for attempts on President Ford. The defense sought to call a prosecutor as a witness while jurors were absent before she returned to her cell.
Mitchell L. WerBell III, Atlanta based international arms dealer, indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of conspiring to smuggle marijuana into the United States. He was among eight named in the Miami loaded indictment sealed until Thursday. The DEA says no actual importation occurred and notes alleged phone talks with a confidential informant.
The Aiken Community Playhouse may schedule a special Sunday evening show of 1776 if sufficient interest exists. Will Cole says more than 2,000 have attended the musical past performances, almost all sold out. Residents can call Virginia Acres Park tonight through Sunday to register interest and reserve seats.

They are studying statutes for possible use in any prosecution including a cover-up charge. A spokesman says Atty. Gen. Edward H Levi will seek indictments or explain why not in a report on the department’s investigation intoCLA wrongdoing.

The move follows a series of developments including potential re-vote on commissioner Archie Ellis and questions over board legality.
