Massachusetts voters repealed a 10 month old seat belt law by 54 to 46 percent while Nebraska rejected a 14 month old statute by under 1000 votes. Charles Spilman of Traffic Safety Now said the results reflect a broader public support for belt use laws and forecasts more states adopting such measures.

Early grades exceed 80 percent meeting reading and math standards, but eighth grade math lags at 60 percent. gaps persist between poor and wealthier students and older students lag behind younger peers.
