Former state senator Gilbert E McMillan, a long time Aiken County representative from 1969 to 1980 and former mayor pro tem, died at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A retired engineer, he also worked on the Manhattan Project and served on Aiken City Council before his Senate tenure. Funeral arrangements were not fully listed.

Man Drowns Cleaning Pool In Clearwater
Ronnie Harris of 186 Maple St. drowned Tuesday in a pool he was cleaning at a Townsend Street home. Lt. Michael Frank said the body was found in about six and a half feet of water. the coroner noted Harris helped the elderly couple and had cleaned the pool before. An autopsy was planned to determine cause of death.
