Dairy goats bring Alpine charm to Beech Island farm
Kathy Petty profiles Betty and Sonny Yates who raise about two dozen Alpine and Nubian dairy goats on a 14 acre Beech Island farm. The family, moved from Kentucky after layoffs, also keeps peacocks rabbits and other animals and hopes to expand goat cheese and dairy products while engaging with 4-H and state dairy goat groups. Rachel, age six, helps milking and the kids describe goats as friendly pets that produce milk and other products.
