Hunley hull plate removed as researchers probe submarine
Scientists extracting a fourth hull plate from the Confederate submarine Hunley near Charleston may unlock why it sank in 1864. The crew compartment and Captain Lt George Dixon remain targets while tests examine the conning tower glass for battle damage. Project managers say excavation will continue in shifts toward month end.

Opposition to Southeast Snappers Protection Zones
Myrtle Beach fishermen oppose a proposal by the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council to create protection zones for the snapper grouper group in federal waters 3 to 200 miles offshore. They warn zones would devastate the local industry and be hard to enforce while some species are already limited. Biologist Kerry O Malley notes enforcement limits vary by species.
