A 15 year old North Augusta High student was taken into custody after classmates reported a revolver in his waistband during gym class. The 32 caliber revolver was unloaded with six bullets found. He was charged with carrying a weapon on school property and unlawful carrying by a person under 21 and is detained in Columbia. He faces up to five years per charge as a juvenile.
Three Aiken men face trial on armed robbery charges with possible life terms for Baldwin and Bing. Baldwin, 23, already has a 20 year burglary and armed robbery sentence and faces a murder charge from Oct. 6, 2000. Bing also faces rape counts in the case. Knight could receive up to 30 years. a fourth defendant will testify for the state. The trio allegedly stopped a couple on Gun Range Road in the early hours.
Ashley Jewell Little, 82, a retired Navy captain and the first president of Aiken Technical College, died Monday in a Jacksonville Florida hospital after being stricken at his Florida vacation home. Aiken County officials praised his leadership which helped the school become among the state’s best and credited him with promoting education and job preparation for a better life.
North Augusta Public Safety investigated a robbery at Security Federal Bank near Martintown Road and Knox Avenue. A white male 40s demanded money, fled with cash, no weapon shown, suspect described in red plaid shirt jeans and black cap, no injuries reported.
