Board member makes anti Buddhist Muslim slur at meeting

Columbia. A South Carolina state Board of Education member Henry Jordan used the phrase Screw the Buddhists and Kill the Muslims while discussing displaying the Ten Commandments in public schools. The remark was recorded on tape and later expunged from the minutes. Jordan later apologized, saying he was venting frustration and that Christianity should be taught. State officials dissociated from the comment and Buddhist leaders called him arrogant.

Explosion at Hanford prompts tougher safety reviews

An explosion at the Hanford Site near Richland Washington occurred in a chemical makeup room inside a defunct plutonium facility. No radioactive release or injuries were reported eight workers were hospitalized as a precaution but released. Westinghouse Savannah River Co urged enhanced chemical procedure reviews at Savannah River Site and coordination with Hanford as details emerge.

Westinghouse sues DOE over SRS relocation reimbursements

Westinghouse appeals a U S Court of Claims case seeking to avoid 11 million dollars in relocation payments for Savannah River Site workers. Former executive William A. Quinn testified on transition costs and the disputed tax debt reimbursements amid DOE rules prohibiting such payments.

Midland Valley High student arrested for razor threat

A 17 year old, Richard Rice Quiller of North Augusta, was arrested at Midland Valley High School after he threatened another student with a razor blade at about 11 25 am. He was charged with disturbing school and carrying a weapon on school property and released on bond after being taken to the Aiken County Detention Center. No injuries were reported.
