City Hydro Compromise Rejected by State Regulators

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources rejected parts of Augusta’s plan to divert Savannah River water for a hydroelectric plant. Original proposal diverted 7,600 cfs, easing to 1,900 cfs most of the year with five hours daily at 1,000 cfs in July and August, but DNR insisted on 1,900 cfs year round. Local officials argued environmental and property concerns and faced opposition from South Carolina officials and Rep. Butler Derrick.
