City council hears lighting contract talks and discipline
At a regular meeting the city council suspended a patrolman for thirty days on misconduct charges. A merchant fined for selling gasoline after hours had the penalty remitted. Harry Sudlow of Carolina Light and Power announced readiness to negotiate a new city lease, with no clear outcome on rates. The city spends about 700 per month on lighting after the White Wagon Park avenue addition. The current contract with Carolina Light and Power extends for four more years.

Henry Turner Webb died Monday May 2 at his mother Mrs Jeff Rutland's Mossy section home in Aiken County. Funeral services were held next day at Treadway burial grounds in Aiken County. He was about 54, longtime Mossy resident, married years ago to Janie Hightower who preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother a sister Mrs W M Mitchell and a half brother J T Rutland. Willis Irvin of Augusta has drawn home plans for a residence to be built by C M Bishop on South Boundary.

The 1921 vacation boarding school program in Tamassee began as a hopeful plan to educate uneducated adults. Lander College and Erskine College provided facilities, with state and church support, enabling six summers of intensive study for hundreds of pupils from diverse backgrounds. The program moved to Anderson, expanding access beyond ministers and teachers to mill and farm workers, with students ranging from teens to those over forty.
