Publisher shares history of Aiken Standard with Rotary Club
Scott Hunter, publisher, traced the paper’s evolution since 1973 as a sports reporter. He highlighted computers reducing cut and paste work, and David Boyd explained print tools and the site www.aikenstandard.com. Two Silver Bluff High students, Eddie Bryant and Noah Jimenez, received scholarships. Meetings are Thursdays at 12:30 pm at Newberry Hall. Will Hills is president.

Southeast Regional Rowing Regatta set for mid June in Aiken
The Aiken County Parks Recreation and Tourism Department and the United States Rowing Association sponsor the 2000 Southeast Regional Regatta with rowers from across the country in various weight and age categories. Events start Saturday June 17 at 7 am and run to about 5 pm. Register by calling Jim Buckalow 3465330 or email buckrow IBM net, or contact the department at 642-7559 for info. Voters must register by noon Saturday for the June 13 primaries. Elections Director Stuart Bedenbaugh says the office is open 9 am to noon for registration or corrections. absentee ballots for House District 83 May 23 special election are available at the office. Regular hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm Mon-Fri.
