Waste Processing Facility to Celebrate 20th Year
The Defense Waste Processing Facility at Savannah River Site marks its 20th anniversary with milestones since groundbreaking in 1983 and operations starting in 1996. By 2015 4,000 canisters sealed, about half of planned waste stabilization, vitrified waste blocks environmental risk, enabling closure of eight 1-million gallon tanks.
