FDA approves Gleevec leukemia drug breakthrough treatment
The FDA cleared Gleevec from Novartis as a targeted therapy for chronic myeloid leukemia, expected to ship soon. Trials show remission in over 90 percent of initial patients, with ongoing study across about 3,000 patients worldwide. The one-pill-a-day regimen costs between 2400 and 20000 monthly, and efforts to aid uninsured patients are planned.
