The South Carolina Court of Appeals affirmed a $250000 verdict against Hampton County School District 2 for negligence in protecting a mentally handicapped student in the Trainable Mentally Handicapped program. The jury had found gross negligence after a student was sexually assaulted by another pupil under a teacher aide’s supervision. an initial $1 million award was reduced to $250000 on appeal.
