Letter Carriers Food Drive Aims For Large National Total
Saturday the 1995 Letter Carriers Food Drive will collect non perishable food for Golden Harvest Food Bank serving a two county area in Georgia and South Carolina. Carriers encourage residents to leave items by mailboxes, hoping to exceed 30 million pounds nationwide. Aiken area goals include 50 000 pounds across five counties.

Food drive grows in Aiken with mail carrier support
The National Association of Letter Carriers and the U S Postal Service program has expanded annually since starting three years ago. After a slow start in 1988 the drive collected 1100 pounds in Aiken, then 7000 pounds last year, with expectations for more this year. Mike Firmin of Golden Harvest Food Bank says the drive will feed the agency’s meals program for a month.
