CLEARWATER C Eric Neale has joined the Clearwater Finishing Plant of United Merchants and Manufacturing as general manager. He previously led Superba in Mooresville North Carolina and brings more than 30 years in printing dyeing and management. His appointment was effective April 15.
The School District of Aiken County proclaims tomorrow as Teacher Appreciation Day. The designation, approved by the Aiken County School Board and signed by Chairman Robert H. Slay, honors teachers for their work with students throughout the year.
Citizens of Jackson cast ballots for four Town Council seats and one public works commissioner today at the Town Hall. Public Works Commissioner Earl Pou seeks reelection to the water commission with no opposition. four candidates run for three four year council seats including James Ellis Linda Muns Charles Tipton and Frank Casisa. Five candidates contend for two year seat with William Witt running. longtime councilman Russell McKinney has resigned after two years. Polls stay open until 7 p m and all registered voters who reside in Jackson may vote.
There is a 20 percent chance of showers tonight and 30 percent tomorrow. The low tonight will be in the upper 50s. High tomorrow around the low 80s. Skies stay cloudy Thursday then become fair with warmer temperatures Friday and Saturday.

Augusta patient James Stephens Jr. 48 received a heart at 3 a.m. Sunday and is in critical but stable condition moving from recovery to the coronary care unit. Kenneth Burke 38 from Tifton Ga. also received a heart within 24 hours, both donor hearts from Florida, as hospital notes emphasize donor shortage and center competition.
Betty Joan Moyer was released after the Aiken County Grand Jury returned a no bill in her husband Heyward Gene Moyer’s shooting death. The no bill means insufficient evidence for indictment. coroner reports show Heyward died from gunshot wounds at Talmadge Hospital.
