Aiken County budget holds steady mill rate for next year

County administrator Shepherd outlined the fiscal plan preserving a 63.5 mill rate, with a mill value around $331000 and more than $700000 for employee pay hikes. The plan maintains a $7.3 million-plus reserve and $1.5 million for capital improvements including library expansion, EMS facilities, and county offices, funded mainly from existing revenues and a lease-purchase setup for $1 million in new vehicles. A local option sales tax for road work could pave 90 miles of dirt roads, while Sage Mill Industrial Park upgrades and PSA facility improvements bolster the county’s growth and services.
