El Salvador rebels lose Usulutan as pressure mounts on Duarte

First Property Notices To Be Mailed April 30

Aiken County Tax Assessor Ray McKenney says reassessment notices will go out in three groups starting April 30 with May 7 and May 14 followups. The 1982 appraised value totals 1.525 billion, up 106 percent from 1981. total assessed value rises to 73.36 million, up 114 percent. Millage will be rolled back to limit tax variation, though some owners may see increases.

Aiken Council OKs Reapportionment Emergency Bill and Planning Reorg

In a special session the Aiken County Council approved an emergency ordinance ratifying the reapportionment plan after enabling legislation was passed by the General Assembly. Judge Peeples urged courthouse modernization or replacement as plans are considered. The Belvedere Fire District won third reading for a general obligation bond up to 79000 dollars for a new fire truck, and a joint planning commission committee was proposed to craft a reorganization ordinance. The council also directed removal of invalid parts of the planning ordinance with a April 6 return date.

Joint planning groups set five 1982 priorities

Aiken City Planning and Zoning Commission chair Frank Alexander led the joint Aiken North Augusta and Aiken County Planning Commissions at a Ramada Inn dinner meeting. They ranked development standards and subdivision regulations first, with transportation planning economic development and an official county map following. They formed a committee to draft standards for adoption and set a June 22 committee report meeting.
