Space shuttle Columbia completed a three orbit return to Earth landing at White Sands New Mexico at 9 05 a m mountain time under calm desert conditions after a sand storm delayed its touchdown. Pilots Lousma and Fullerton reported a smooth landing while President Reagan watched from the White House and praised the flight as the craft completed its eight day testing sequence amid minor technical issues.

Arthurs Arrested in 1979 Zippy Mart Murders

Jimmy Laverne Arthurs, 29, of Gloverville, was arrested on two counts of murder and one count of armed robbery in connection with the January 4 1979 Zippy Mart killings of Mary Elizabeth Holaway and Charles Holaway at the Beech Island store. The sheriff cited “good evidence” but declined to specify. Bond will be set by a circuit court judge.

Roads Meeting Draws Few Council Members
