Sage Mill fire station staffing approved in 5-4 vote
Aiken County council approved hiring four firefighters to run the new Sage Mill station with an initial annual cost of about 127000 dollars for one senior firefighter and three others. The vote came amid a debate with the Graniteville Vaucluse Warrenville Fire Department which had proposed a higher contract cost. The meeting also authorized a 169000 dollar three year vehicle package financing and earmarked 715500 dollars for landfill closures as part of the Fiscal 2000 budget under the Three Rivers Authority. The EMS division may use the Hampton Avenue Detention Center as an evidence storage facility and emergency operations center.
